The sins of the player. The first sin: bias.

Preface: This post (or a series of posts) was created for people who spend in online games a maximum of 1-2 hours a day and play either alone or a maximum with a best friend/girl. I will try to tell what thoughts my mind came to not slide down to the negative and aggression in online games. I tried to understand different aspects of the conflict in different situations. As an example, I will use now popular games like Overwatch (because now I am playing it), but I will refer to other projects.

What will happen in the post?
In this post, I will affect the problem of disputes between lovers of some genres of the Moscow Region and Haters of other genres. I will explain my (and possibly many others) position to the terminology of MMO and related holivars and butherts. In other posts (if they are), I will consider the rest of the aspects, such as a team game, trolls, ratings, meaning, etc.D. My thoughts, observations, thoughts, links to resources and quotes.

Why is this post?
In this post (as in others) I will try to figure out the misunderstanding of each other’s misunderstanding in online projects.

Who I am?
I am not a e -sportsman, not a celebrity, not an insider. I do not possess any knowledge hidden from all. Just an ordinary player (maybe a spar). I play in MMO for 10 years, I started with CS, ruler, wow, tf2, battlefield, etc. I tried many projects such as SMITE, DOTA, LOL, COD, Flashpoint, etc. He even played such ambiguous as Panzar, PW, Rift, Archage, BD … For me, the game is an analogue of viewing/playing a football match or watching a series of a beloved television series in the evening after work. I spent an hour, received an emotional and adrenaline growth, “increased the level of endorphine” in the blood – excellent. Now I am 27 if anyone is interested. All this information is so that you understand that I am not building an expert, but there is life experience behind me, confirmed by time and statistics.

Chapter 1. Genre holivars. Bake from “I do not play your MMO!!”
At one time (about 10 years ago), the games were not so a scribe how many. And the concept of MMO was rather strict, as well as the demarcation by genres. Games such as counteratrike were MULTIPLAYER Online, and such games as Lineage were MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER Online. Today there are a huge number of projects that can be attributed to MMOs, whether it be a shooter, RPG or survival. Plus, all sorts of postscripts “with elements” appeared (Khoror, tarting. )

Wikipedia gives us a clear (seemingly) reasoned https://ukcryptocasinos.co.uk/review/golden-pharaoh-casino/ approach to understanding MMOs.

„Mass multiplayer online game (English. Massively Multiplayer Online Game, MMO, MMOG) is a network computer game, which simultaneously plays a large number of players (at least a few tens, more than thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands). The main difference between MMO and most standard network computer games are several factors: 1) MMO operates exclusively through the Internet – standard multiplayer games can function, except for the Internet, and through a local network. 2) MMO simultaneously play from a couple of tens of to several million people who have the opportunity to play with each other – the number of simultaneous participants in standard multiplayer games usually ranges from two to several dozen people. 3) MMO in most cases has an open or pseudo open game world. 4) MMO has no restriction on the time of the game session.”

Most people share MMO and MO (session) according to 2 criteria: this is the number of players and the presence of RPG element. Let’s look at these two concepts separately.

The presence of RPG element:
It is impossible to judge strictly by it. Since things became confirmation of this element. Pumping a character (levels) and pins (opening new opportunities). These elements are present in many shooters, whether Battlefield, Call of Duty, Paragon, Battleborn, etc. Somewhere less, somewhere more. But everywhere it takes to invest in improving the characteristics of the character (opening weapons, equipment, maps, pumping passive and active skills (reference to the lol system)).
Similar, but in the opposite direction, the situation is in MMORPG projects like Gildvars 2 (all people are equal on arenas, RPG element does not affect the battles), Bladey Soul (clothing and weapons very poorly affect the character stats of the character. Planetside 2 is a great example of the Battlefield analog.

Availability of number:
We are all used to the fact that MMORPG is a huge number of people. But in fact, large clusters of players are found only in cities and in peak periods of the life of games. If you look at any game after six months of its existence, then what we will see? Take an example of Archage, Wow, SkyForge, Allods, SWTOR and other games. Arena for 2-10 people, Battgrads for 20-50 players for which people gather every 100 years. Most people run into the instance zones (Dange/quest zones SWTOR). And they, in turn, are designed for small groups of people from 2 to 8 people. It turns out that over time we can say that MMO turns into a session (trips to PVP, Dange).

In confirmation of this fact, we can say that if you take a video of the battles from the paragon and the PVP video from the Black Desert (or video battles at the Tree of Saver Arena are brawl in lol/dota) and show these videos to a person to an ignorant in games, he will say that these games of the same genre.

Moral difference?
So why do we love one genre holy and hate another? Very often, if you tell a person that you play MMO, he can answer with phrases in the style of “not, I don’t like it” or “Well, this is for the nerds, I can’t grin the mobs for months”. And at the same time, a person can be a fan of World of Tanks or Dota.

At the same time, there are people who adore PVP in the arena in Wow/Guild Wars 2, but spit on any other type of archive without mmo prefix in genre.

Conclusion:
Let’s still admit that a person thinks biased. And first of all, we recognize this for ourselves. We may like ENT, mechanics, heroes, music … A combination of several elements. But we will be biased to other projects, we should get burned 1 time on the representative of the genre.

Perhaps if we ourselves recognize our bias, perhaps then we will stop fighting on the forums which genre is the best, we will listen to others (it is not necessary to agree, but at least give us to speak out) and finally stop acting on the principle of “I have not tried, but I condemn”.
